A culture of research excellence is championed by seven specialized research institutes: the Institute of Foreign Literature, the Institute of Translation Studies, the Institute of Theoretical Linguistics, the Institute of Applied Linguistics, the Institute of Comparative Literature and Intercultural Communication, the Institute of Japanese Language, Literature, and Culture, and the Institute of German Language, Literature, and Culture. These institutes collectively position the Faculty as a pivotal research hub for "Foreign Language and Literature" within Zhejiang Province's humanities and social sciences landscape.
Signifying its strong research output, the Faculty has achieved remarkable accomplishments from the “13th Five-Year Plan” period into the “14th Five-Year Plan” period. It successfully secured 25 National Social Science Fund projects, including one Major Project and five Key Projects. A major breakthrough was made in prestigious awards, with faculty members contributing to two first prizes in the 9th Outstanding Research Achievement Award for Higher Education Institutions in Humanities and Social Sciences. Additionally, the Faculty earned one first prize, four second prizes, and three third/youth prizes in the Zhejiang Philosophy and Social Science Outstanding Achievement Awards. Academic productivity is further demonstrated by the publication of over 130 papers in indexed journals such as A&HCI, SSCI, and CSSCI, alongside more than 30 monographs, translations, and edited volumes.
In addition, the Faculty has forged a collaborative partnership with the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences to establish the "Research Center for Foreign Languages and Cultures in the Context of Ningbo's International Development Strategy". This center further enhances our research capabilities and fosters deeper understanding of international dynamics.
Furthermore, the Faculty is home to the Zhejiang Academy of Translation, the Research Center for World Marine Literature and Culture, and the Research Center for Interdisciplinary Studies of Literature, which collectively nurture a vibrant and enriching environment for linguistic and cultural studies. These institutions, along with our other research endeavors, underscore our commitment to advancing knowledge and fostering intellectual growth in the fields of language, literature, and culture.
